I got to have a go in one today.

I took my Mk2 in for MOT, and while I was there the bosses daughter turned up in her "new" 54 reg S4 Avant. She gave me the keys, and off I went.

I want one. V8 rumble, solid, planted, top spec, proper car. It felt just like my mapped V6 TDI up to about 4000rpm, but where the Passat need another gear, the Audi still had another 3000 revs to go. And boy did it go.

It got me browsing Auto trader when I got back, and looking at the values one looks very tempting. Not sure that I could live with the fuel consuption though. I did 14.7mpg over about 5 miles, and she had only manage 21mpg over the last 200. Having said that though. I only did 9000 miles in the Passat last year because I used the Golf more, so maybe the fuel costs wouldn't be too bad.
