New budget carnuba wax

yep, it's Autoglym's answer to enZYm/eMOLient type waxes.

Claimed to do 50 washes with Autoglym 's Body shampoo. Big Si will back this up as an excellent all-round product has it's PH 0.

The wax is on test at the mo, as I'll see how it survives in 2 weeks.
Initial findings are excellent. apllicators fold on themselves, but you get two and a microfibre cloth in for £35 approx.

My Dodo is still holding out well. It's had a couple of washes, and it still beaded up a treat during a brief shower today.

I always use AG shampoo, and buy it in bulk, 25litres for £40 through a mate in the trade 8)

I reckon that I'll give this new wax a go on hol in a couple of weeks time.

Can you apply it with your hand? I find that the best way to get an even coverage.

Unfortunately no, it's applicator pad only, but, you do get two of them. Ideally, a german applicator pad, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sonus-SFX-Profess ... .m20.l1116

Instructions are quite simple really. There's no need to prime with an oil based gloss, just wash with Autoglym body shampoo, rinse and dry.
Wet applicator pad to make it damp, apply wax in circular or in lines ala zymol and buff off when it goes white. They do say 10 mins, all I did was start at the wing, make way down to rear quarter then buff off. It comes off easy, and I summise a damp pad is there to get the carnuba to seal it's pores quickly, rather than waiting 24 hours. I would honestly say it gives £100 results plus. If it does last 6 weeks plus then I think they'll have a winner. I've not found a wax yet that will do 6 weeks outside in the elements 24/7.

I have it on test on my audi bonnet. I have a quarter Hidef, the middle sonus acrylic glanz sealant, and the final quarter a known Carnuba brand.

Okily dokily, here's some results on the 2nd coat. Never found any wax to give instant bling on it's first coating, as Carnuba's like to be layered.

2 bug bears, minor though:-

1) applicator pads are hopeless. As above, get a german applicator pad. You can wash them time after time. I have 3 well over a year old and I wash em regularly.

2) what I would say is down to the carnuba content and microcrstalline waxes is straight from a cool place to the applicator pad is a pita, as the wax doesn't want to work straight away. Take Zymol Concourse for instance, it needs to stay in the fridge to stop it seperating, and to apply, you use the heat from your hands to apply. I'd pop the top off hi def and leave it to air in the sun for 15 mins, then it works good. A pita, but, also a good sign of quality and high wax content.

So that's it..

I think honestly it's as good as Concourse after 2 layers, and worth £35!

That looks really nice.

Good reflection shots. 8)

Bloody hard to get good reflections on my colour, but I will be giving this wax a go very soon.

I asked AG about the longevity, and the nice lady got back.

Hi John,

We use a variety of test methods to evaluate the performance of polishes
(ease of application, buff off, finish, gloss depth, durability etc.)
both under controlled laboratory environment and on cars in the field.

The laboratory test method gives us the comparative results on how many
washes of sponging a standard neutral shampoo can be withstood by the
polish under test before a property like beading ceases. In between each
wash, the treated panel is rinsed with water and checked for beading and
presence of the coating. We use this test method for initial evaluation
and comparison of polishes.

Tests are also carried out in the field as well and from our experience
our laboratory tests correlate well under real conditions for comparison
purposes. Obviously, durability will depend on the weather conditions,
how long and often the car is used and cleaned and the type of
detergents that are used. We have determined that HD Wax is very durable
and the beading can last for a number of months. The coating also makes
it easier to clean the paintwork. We know you will be pleasantly
surprised.
