had a touran in the other day, emissions light on.

fuel temp sensor fault, guess what it had fitted??Image

opened it up after measuring resistance 0.118kohms,only has terminals on one side so it doesnt link into the sensor itself(mine does,no probs)

beware, these sell on fleabay for 40 quid mark and obviously dont work!!

118 ohms is a fairly low impedace. No wonder light was on.. it's nigh on a direct short!

I know. Your box is in-line from the sensor to the ecu. This acts as a potential divider, so as the temp changes, the resistance still changes giving a voltage swing. Ecu will be happy with that.

That box appears to replace the sensor with a fixed value. So while the ecu sees cold diesel, it never changes. Ecu 'l not like that.

I bet the dearest part on that is the potting compound to encase the 10p resistor or the connector.

It would be interesting to put one of these boxes on the rollers. It may make an extra 20bhp, but at 1200rpm.

We had a Tunit on the 307 110 HDI. That felt quicker mid range, but on the rollers it made 114bhp. Hmmm.

30mins later, Tunit on ebay, Superchips uploaded = 136bhp and min 40 lbft increase between 1800-4200 rpm :D

As I understand is the chip or remap is the best way as the timing/injection/boost is tailor made to the vehicle.

A box just squirts more diesel in and then expects standard ecu parameters to adjust accordingly.. Unfortunately increased boost pressures don't happen to stock settings..

Summat I have picked up on over on an american site is that chippin a Tiptronic can screw up the Auto shifting, as there's an ECU for that too. Apparrently GIAC do a chip for that too, so you upgrade engine and transmission ecu's too.

I think it would be interesting to get our car's on the rollers to outputs. Why put P.S. as an output figure.. oh yes.. it's a higher value than BHP
