Handsfree kits

Postby dubber36 on Tue Jan 22, 2008 11:55 am

I need a new handsfree kit in my Passat.

I've got a Nokia kit at the moment, and all you see is the small button on the switch blank on the centre console, and the mic stuck to the interior light. Problem is, it is now old tech, it plays up and some callers get lots of talk-back echo.

I quite fancy one of the new Parrot kits, with the screen display, but I cant find anywhere to neatly mount it. I like my car to look as factory as poss, so I want the kit to look as intergrated as it can be. I thought that the front ash tray would be a good place, but it will need a fair bit of modding.

Has anybody else fitted anything similar, and have you got any pics?

I run that kit you have too. New Nokia's with colour displays look good.
My personal opinion on another brand kit is sometimes they have strange querks which i learned the hard way with Plantronics and a Nokia Phone.

brodit do excellent holders

Brodit holders are good, but really for mounting handset or pda craddles.

I was looking at the Parrot CK3100, and need somewhere to mount the screen, with out it looking to "stuck on"

The drinks holders next to the handbrake look like an area you could mod. Make a cover, or a mini console inside them. Remember the pic I posted eons a go with that mod? I'll dig it out.

2 options to look kinda good. I've seen mobile phone fitters build a plate which fits between the gap on the radio and cage, secures in there and then angled so you can see the screen.

Or this..

search in vehicles, rhd, this is an easy fit console adapter

I think bluetooth kits are the way to go. If you get a universal one, then it can be compatible with future phones you have too. I'm hoping to get a new stereo with integrated bluetooth soon....when the christmas spending has recovered itself! :D

The only thing I miss is intergrated charging.
My original kit put the lights on the phone, charged it, shut it down with ignition off.
I'll big up the Brodit holder for the N95 though. Good piece of kit that, as a N95 on Bluetooth don't last too long.

There are some nice bluetooth stereo's about for not much money Charlie.

I found this one when I was looking for one for my cousin. Quite oem in a Polo I think.

I've got a similar one in my Golf for now, and that sounds really good through it's little speakers.

You're right, that is a good price!
Only problem is that i've seen a jvc one I really like with dvd capability too and i've got my heart set on it now!! :D
It's on fleabay for around £320

There are also a few others that are cheaper but not known brands so i'm a little sceptical of those.
