DIY aircon recharge.

Postby johnDUB on Thu Jan 03, 2008 12:15 pm

here we go.

Lift off plenum cover and you'll see the two connections to the air-con. To save confusion, they are different sizes, so connection is simple.
Connect, start car and set aircon to flat out and to it's coldest setting.

Observe the gauge. If you need to add, shake the can and pull the trigger at the same time. Stop and observe the setting. Once ok, disconnect, and check the new icy-ness you have. Take some headache tablets has the escaped gas on removal will get you big time  in a few hours.

I used this kit with a lubricant in it and a sealant for good measures. They retail for around £40 from Halfords.

Refit Plenum and bask in your new found cool-ness!!

Not bad that, but I paid £40 to have mine done at a local garage.

sorry guys, beat you there,i dont pay to refill mine!! 8)

heard a lot about those kits, all good so far!
most of the a/c guys near me will recharge the system for around 60 quid.dubious about them tho,cos you dont know if they are filling the system with the correct stuff.loads of different grades of refrigerant out there.put the wrong one in and say g'night to your system.
seals go first, that in itself is a very expensive thing to do.

compressors around the 5-600 quid mark, add to that a new drier and fitting!! :!:
